Walking Lightly Ranch is a retreat center near Whitefish Montana that has been dedicated as a sanctuary and includes hundreds of acres of natural habitat. The guiding philosophy for the care of this land is grounded in the belief that the future of the earth and of humanity lies in the choices we make every day. The focus is on sustainability and living in harmony with the beavers, bears, hawks, eagles, migrating geese and many other species that either pass through or make this land their home.

The homestead and other manmade structures that support human activity are minimal and take a back seat to the lakes, forests, and meadows that define this sanctuary.
This mosaic pays homage to Walking Lightly Ranch and places like it; and it challenges each of us to examine our own choices to find changes we can make in our daily lives to promote sustainability and be in harmony with nature in our local surroundings.
